“If you want to be the best, you have to do things other people aren't willing to do” - Micheal Phelps
What’s your favourite thing about competing?
I love being able to test myself against other great competitors and seeing all the hard work pay off
Who is your role model and why?
Personally I look up to Ali Day as I've grown up watching him from when I first started competing as an U10. I admire his endurance, technique, but most importantly his ability to put his head towards something, dig deep and get to his next goal, which is why he is one of the goats of surf sports.
What inspires you to be your best?
My family and coaches around me always help to make sure I'm in the right mindset and seeing all the work they put in, inspires me to go for it and never give up.
Walk us through your routine of getting ‘in the zone’ before a major event / race
I try to stay as relaxed as possible before a big race whilst remaining focused trying to plan out my processes and visualize my race ahead.
To date, what’s your career highlight?
Coming 2nd in an open field at NZ high performance trials
Going into this season, what’s your number one goal?
My number one goal this season is to take out the ironman title at NZ nationals.
It’s the night before a big competition... what’s your must-have meal?
Anything related to pasta is a must so normally a good lasagna does the trick.
What’s your favourite song to listen to before competing or during training?
Personally I'm a big fan of drum and bass but really anything that gets me hyped up and ready to race fast.
What makes Engine products different from other gear out on the market?
I use ENGINE products because I believe I can always rely on them and never fail to disappoint when it comes to comfort and performance.
What’s your crucial Engine product(s) and why?
I love the ENGINE iron jammers and club cuts because when you're wearing them a lot for training/racing you want something you can always feel comfortable in without sacrificing speed.
