After a stellar 2019/20 season we are excited to welcome Lana Rogers to the EngineAthlete Team.
We catch up with Lana as she prepares to defend her Coolangatta Gold and Kelloggs Nutri Grain Series titles.
In this blog post gives us a run down on; her training schedule, superstitions, and her ability to be consistently chase improvement.
How has your off season been?
After the Australian Titles were cancelled, I took some time to myself to figure out what I wanted to achieve and how could improve certain things once training starts. Currently I am focused on the Coolangatta Gold which hopefully goes ahead in October.
What has your weekly training looked like?
Monday – Fridays I start off with a pool session in the morning, followed by a gym session.
n the afternoons are usually a board, ski or an iron session followed by a run of some kind. Saturdays are the big training mornings which is a tough way to finish my week…To help get me through these sessions I just always think about the big breakie after!
Has there been an area of focus for improvement?
I wanted to focus on my ski paddling this off season. It’s an area I’ve always wanted to improve, and by allocating extra training time and effort I’m starting to show signs of improvement. Hopefully with the extra time things are starting to tick over a little better, and that leg of my iron races becomes a strength.
Have you learnt any new skills or tricks?
My boyfriend is trying to teach me to do a 360 spin on a board, at this stage it’s not working out too well! But I will keep working away and will post updates on my Instagram
What does life away from training look like for you?
Working as a learn to swim teacher at my parents swimming pool or uni work between training sessions. For some down time, you’ll always find me at the beach!
Do you have any superstitions? If so, what?
Cracking my knuckles!! If I don’t crack my knuckles before the gun goes off, I can’t race well!
How do you stay motivated?
I think because I always seem to think and plan ahead. Working towards the next skill I want to stick, the next race I want to go well in, the next leg I want to improve on.
This may seem weird but sometimes I rewatch Liz Pluimers and Courtney Hancock racing and the amazing skills they had, I want that too.
Favourite off season pool training session?
Kick sets. I’m always up for a chat during laps!
But also 20*400 on 2:30 is a bit of a go to session for a Monday morning.
